Correction!

I had mentioned in my previous post that Mi Piace was coming to Downtown, taking residence in the Watermarke tower.  This was a little incorrect!

The OWNER of Mi Piace is opening a NEW restaurant by the name of Towne

And in more waist shattering news...

Guess who's coming downtown??

I'm not sure that the transplants will know who or what Mi Piace is, but for us Angelenos, Mi Piace is like a best friend.  Like a best friend with benefits, but the only thing getting any action is your tastebuds.  The current Mi Piace is in Pasadena and it is rarely empty; in fact it's one of the places that tends to require a resy on nights and weekends.  If the constant crowd wasnt testament enough to it's sheer awesome-ness, the food will surely make you a believer.

"RUIN my satin shoes"

For the last few weeks, I have been hearing rumors about two new hotels joining the L.A. Live complex.  First, I heard that one could be a Hard Rock Hotel, which sent excitement quivers running through my body.  I thought of how "cool" DTLA would be and the influx of tastemakers would be HUGE.

Then I heard that The Cosmopolitan LA was going to open, which then sent me into a euphoric stupor, because the Cosmopolitan is seriously gorgeous and totally gaudy aka, VEeeegggggaaaassss.  I was totally into this one, because with such a swanky ass hotel would come lounges, retail, a casino? Anywho.... these were sadly short-lived when the official plans were revealed today.

Seriously, fuck my life.

Ghosts at Concerto?

I will be quite honest; I've never been a fan of Concerto.  I think it's ugly and looks more like an office building than an luxury high rise tower.  Then it has all those weird balconies on random floors mid way up the building, which makes no sense, because you'd think the penthouse levels would have the balconies...

The building went bankrupt and has been, presumably, empty since then... except for the people I keep seeing on the pool deck.  Being on a high floor affords me a point of view that most don't see- namely all of the amenities over at Concerto.  For the last two weeks or so, I have seen a few people in the jacuzzi, some tanning, and even one walking a dog.  I keep thinking How are people in there if it's supposed to be vacant?

Did some of the units actually close prior to the developer going bankrupt? Or, have residents over at The Met figured out a way to infiltrate and take advantage of all the outdoor goodies?

The Must, Perch, and Weeneez (barf), oh my!

Back in 2009 I was hired at a special events firm that was located in The Title Guarantee Building on the corner of 5th and Hill.  Right across the street was a building that had ongoing construction that never seemed to end. The rooftop was being worked on -for what seemed forever - as they were adding new floors to the otherwise historic building.  Alas, my time at the special events firm came to an end when I was laid off and I quickly moved on to other projects.

The other day, I was sitting at home thinking about that damn building.  We had always known that some cool bar was going to be going up there, but after a few years we naturally forgot.  So check it; the scoop is that a new french restaurant by the name of Perch will be moving into two of the five new floors atop the building... AND former DTLA gem, The Must will also be re-opening on the ground floor!  I vaguely remember The Must, to be quite honest because the former space it occupied was costantly being changed...
